In the past I've published a few free patterns for holiday decorations, mostly because they're quick, fun projects that are even better when shared. The most popular by far was the Holiday Mice pattern, and I haven't even tried to top that one since it was published. However, I'm feeling like I want to do something this year, but I'm a bit short of inspiration.
I had a quick browse through Ravelry, and goodness! If you wanted to knit a stocking or tiny pullover, you could keep your needles busy for the rest of your life and not run out of patterns. There are also a number of very cute snowmen, birds, gingerbread men, Santa/elves, trees, and acorns. So what does that leave? I have no idea, which is why I thought I might ask what you would like to knit this year.
I can't promise to design anything that is suggested, and I certainly can't promise to design all of them! (Just wanted to write that, as there's been confusion in the past) But if you have a great idea that you think I could make something out of, please leave a comment! Perhaps if we all put our heads together, I can come up with a great design for you.
A sprig of mistletoe or holly. These could probably be done interchangeably since the leaves are similarly shaped and the difference is the color of the berries.
ReplyDeleteI'm working on some ornaments. I love the idea that they come out every year with the tree. Sometimes the bigger stuff gets boxed as people move or downsize, but homemade ornaments seem to stick around.
ReplyDeleteWhat about an angel? Either a small ornament size, or a tree-topper size?
ReplyDeleteThis year I would really like to knit deer and or reindeer. Penguins and polar bears are nice too. Perhaps a little eskimo would be a cute addition!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what you will come up with!
a little elf?
ReplyDeleteA knitted Scandinavian Julbock would be pretty cool. I've always wanted to make one out of straw, but I'm far more likely to knit one.
ReplyDeleteA holly or mistletoe is a great one! I immediately thought about a Christmas garland that wont take forever to make.
ReplyDeleteHow about a wreath that can be sized up or down depending on the fiber (i.e., embroidery floss to super chunky)? Or perhaps start a "12 Days" series adding one each year? I'd love to see what you would do with that theme!
ReplyDeleteOr an advent calendar (with 24 tiny knitted creations--the mind reels!)
ReplyDeleteA Merry Holiday Wombat would be positively fantastic, and much more interesting than something more predictable.

ReplyDeleteOops. The internet burped there (or else it really liked the idea of a Merry Wombat!) Sorry about that!
ReplyDeleteHow about something that includes the now popular pennant/banner/garland idea?
ReplyDeleteI *love* the Advent Calendar idea!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great ideas! Keep them coming. I think I'll do a couple sketches with my favourites, and see what happens. But there's still a few weeks left, and I plan to do something small and quick. Although, the advent or 12 days ideas might stick around for another year when I have more time.
ReplyDeleteLove the elf idea!
ReplyDeleteYea, you're considering the 12 Days! If you're looking for something quick I'll vote for the wombat! And maybe a Christmas armadillo? Ooh, a series of "oddball" animal ornaments?
ReplyDeleteNot so much an ornament but I would love a seasonal outfit for one of the animal patterns. I'd love an elf or Santa outfit for the toys and think you could add to it yearly to create an entire holiday wardrobe for the year. So far Ihave knit e lamb and pug and will move on to another puppy soon.
ReplyDeleteHow about a little bird? A cardinal or Christmas goose or, yes, even a partridge. A little pudgy one.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of mistletoe or holly as well as a wreath, these would make perfect gift toppers or could go on the tree!
ReplyDeleteAn angel or fairy, a row of chirpy robins, a Christmas star, baby Jesus in his manger. Just a few ideas for you, but my favourite is the robin.
